JACOBS, James H. – Of Flushing, age 75, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Jim Marcus officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
James was born in Flint, Michigan on February 28, 1941, and was the only child of Albert and Veta Jacobs.
On October 12, 1963 he married his “Teen Club”, sweetheart, Leah Roberts.
They just recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary.
James served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1963.
Mr. Jacobs was a 32nd Degree Mason and a devoted member of Westside Baptist Church in Flushing. He was also a licensed pilot.
Mr. Jacobs retired after 30 years from General Motors as a Tool & Die Maker and recently retired from Jacobs Signs, that he owned and operated for 40 years, alongside his loyal friend, Dennis Lawrason..
Jim, Leah and family enjoyed many days at their northern Michigan home on the East Branch of the AuGres River. Jim especially enjoyed hunting and fly fishing.
He took pride in the land and loved the seclusion of the property.
Surviving are wife, Leah Jacobs;
four daughters, Dawn Jacobs of Flushing,
Marcy O’Brien of Flushing,
Amanda Jacobs of Fenton and Bailey Jacobs of Flushing;
grandchildren, Cassy, Kyle and Katie Bosley;
great-grandchildren, Logan, Hadley and Sophia;
very special people, Douglas O’Brien and Damian Francis, who were more than sons-in-law to Jim, they were great friends;
brother-in-law, David Kummer, was “the best fishing, hunting and travel buddy a man could ask for.”
Also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Janet (Larry) Carriere and Nancy (David) Kummer.
Special acknowledgment to the oldest and dearest friend, Bernard Andreni, who he shared “many tales with for over 65 years.”
Jim had many friends, including “The Fenton Road Gang”, his “hunting and fishing buddies” from the Big Rapids area.
Special thanks to Dr. Aurora, Dr. Salimi, Dr. Sahouri and all the staff for their kindness and support.
