Melvin “Bill” Gregson, age 79, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on April 5th, 2018. Melvin was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on October 13th, 1938 to William and Gladys Gregson, whom he joins in heaven, along with sisters Mary Ellen (Carl) Vaughn, Melba (Chuck) Graham, Betty (Tom) Tyler and his brother William Perry Gregson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, KayAnne, children Billy Ray (Edith) Gregson, Melissa (Mark) Webber, and Pamela (Robert) Taylor. Melvin, better known as Papaw to his loving grandchildren Brad (Holly) Taylor, Bobbi Lee Taylor, Felicia (Matthew) Sproul, Billy Gregson, Brooke (Matthew) Ensing, Dianne (Jeremy) Eisenhardt, Katti (Joshua) Levesque, Tyler Webber, and a growing number of great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Melvin served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1962. He married KayAnne Wilson on August 15th, 1964 in Flint MI. Melvin worked as a truck driver for GM, retiring in 1995. He then went on to serve on the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department for 6 years. Melvin was a devoted member of Bethany Baptist Church in Flint before moving to Lennon and transferring membership to Immanuel Baptist Church in Corunna.
The pride Melvin held for his family was often told through the stories shared about their happenings and accomplishments. The smile on his face while spending time with them, especially his grandkids and great-grandbabies, was truly indescribable. Friends were more like family to him and playing cards was a frequent event in the Gregson home. In his younger years, he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and harmonica. Throughout his life, Melvin also had a love for fishing. His family takes comfort in knowing he was a man of God and he’s now at home with The Lord.
Funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 9th at Sharp Funeral Homes- Miller Rd Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd. Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 3-8 PM Sunday, April 8th and before the service on Monday. Dinner to follow at Immanuel Baptist Church in Corunna. The family would like to direct any memorial contributions in memory of Melvin Gregson to Immanuel Baptist School.
