Gancarz, Martin of Flushing, age 98, died Monday, October 10, 2016, at Living Joy-Memory Care in Flushing. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Robert Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church.
Martin was born in Poland on November 4, 1917, the son of Michael and Sophia (Stasiak) Gancarz. He married Zofja “Sophie” Walchek in March of 1946. She preceded him in death on February 12, 1915. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and Dom Polski.
Martin is survived by his four sons, Roman and wife Mary, John, Edward and wife Cindy, Richard and wife Sandy; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special daughter, Marcella and husband James Delecki; and a special granddaughter, Therese Delecki. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; grandson, James Gancarz; daughter-in-law, Leah Gancarz; and special granddaughter, Cindy Delecki.
