SIMMONS, William J. “Tex” – of Flint, age 82, passed away August 19, 2012 at home. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, August 23, 2012 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd., Flint; Rev. Todd Frusti officiating. Burial, with Military Honors will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 11-3 & 5-8 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. On Thursday, there will be visitation at the church from 12 noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or Lutheran Hour Ministry.
William was born in Burkeville, Texas on December 28, 1929, son of the late Louis and Leva (Youngblood) Simmons. He married Audrey M. Bills on June 24, 1955 in Flint. William was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and spent all of his life serving the church. He was a member of UAW Local #599 and past President of the Lutheran Layman League. William served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked at General Motors as a Press Operator for 35 years. William also worked at the Flint Auto Auction for 20 years.
William is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Christine (Jim) Shann, Cheryl Coon, Jeffrey Simmons and fiancé, Susan; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Steadman and Lester Simmons.
