DAVIS, Phyllis “Blue Grandma” – of Flint, age 97, passed away August 15, 2015. A Funeral Service will be held 2 PM Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 6434 Richfield Rd., Flint; Pastor Jack Dowden officiating. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be visitation from 12 PM until time of service on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church Missions.
Phyllis was born in Evart, MI on January 9, 1918, daughter of the late Leonard and Alice (Simons) Stickney. Following Alice's passing, Phyllis was raised by Leonard and her stepmother, Doris (McGirr). Phyllis worked on the family farm, was an avid seamstress, gardener and a voracious reader. Phyllis was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was active with the Seniors and Missionary Group. She also was a member of Richfield Church of the Nazarene for many years. Phyllis knitted baby hats, clothes and quilts for the Women and Children’s Center. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at St. Joseph Hospital for 30 years in Pediatrics and Nursery.
Phyllis is survived by her grandchildren, Laura (Michael) McKellar, Linda (Herbert) Riley, Janet Shafer, James Shafer and Maria Shafer; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alice; son-in-law, Max; grandson, Kevin; brother, Leonard Stickney, Jr.; sister, Dessie Cole.
