BURGER, Gary L. Sr. “Fifth Wheel” - Of Burton, age 81, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Friday, October 2, 2015
at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Per Gary’s wishes, cremation will take place following the service.
Visitation 11am-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm Thursday by the Knights of Columbus Council 10170 followed by a Knight od Columbus Memorial Service. Visitation 10am Friday at the church until the time of the Mass.
Gary was born in Flint on September 21, 1934, the son of the late Charles Burger and Doris and Fred Boven. Gary married Ione “Toni” Schlegelmilch on January 19, 1955 in Angola, Indiana. Gary graduated from Mandeville High School, Class of 1952 and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 10170 and member of Teamsters Local 332. Gary loved driving his truck, Baker Buses, his Cadillac and enjoyed going to the casinos. He retired from Central Transport after 35 years of service and was a driving instructor for Baker College for the next 19 years.
Surviving are wife of 60 years, Toni;
children, Bill (Nancy), Gary Jr. (Julie), Robert (Judy), Susan (Thom) Hicks, Sally (Tom) Higgerson, Tom (Kelly), Sandy (Tony) Sparr and Sharon (Jeremy) Craton;
19 grandchildren, Casey, Dustin, Robert, Reed, Adam, Monica, Collin, Matt, Steve, Rachel, John, Ashley, Tommy, Lindsay, Jillian, Jimmy, Eric, Todd and Adam;
10 great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and sister Ethel.
