SMITH, Frank P., Jr. – Of Flint, age 92, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Sugarbush Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the
Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Ron Nuckles officiating, following the service there will be a military service conducted under the auspices of VFW Chevrolet Post #3087.
Cremation will take place following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be conducted under the auspices of Swartz Creek Lodge #458, F.&A.M. at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Frank was born in Gallagher, West Virginia on September 4, 1923, the son of Frank and Lottie Smith and was formerly a resident of Kayford, West Virginia, he came to Flint in 1962.
On August 6, 1945 he married Juanita Carr in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was a veteran of World War II and a life member of Boone Lodge #162, F.&A.M. and Elf Khurafeh Shrine, where he started the newspaper.
He was a Life member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Bay City; Royal Order of Jesters, Court #74 and VFW Chevrolet Post #3087. He was awarded the title of Kentucky Colonel.
Frank was involved in the Shriners Crippled Children’s Committee/Hospital and was instrumental in flying the first crippled child out of Flint for treatment.
He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.
Mr. Smith was Chief Electrician for various coal mining companies in West Virginia and an Electrician for GM in Flint, retiring in 1989;
Surviving are three children, Jerry and wife Alice Smith,
Sherry and husband Ted Bowen,
Gary Smith and Ann;
six grandchildren, Angela and husband David Hietikko,
Melissa and husband Garry Bowman,
Kristen Edson, Brooke and husband Roger Bartos,
Jason Frank Smith and Kaitlin Nevels;
four great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita, in 2012; four sisters and two brothers.
