CHAMBERS, Samuel Lawson – of Genesee – age 74, passed away suddenly while vacationing with family on August 21, 2016. Cremation has taken place and his organs donated. A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Visitation will be 2 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sister’s for Sight.
Sam was born in Flint, MI on March 5, 1942, son of the late Hugh Chambers and Blanche (Bray) Allen. He married Bonnie Brown on December 3, 1966. Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for three years. He was a member of Union Local 651 and retired from AC in 1993. Sam was a member of the Flint Institute of Arts and a Patron of the Arts for more than 25 years and had a love of the opera, symphony and theatre. He was a member of the ACLU and was active in people’s rights. Sam was an avid reader and poker player and was an international RISK champion. He loved spending time with his family and was a devout atheist. Sam was so proud that he was able to meet his hero, Mohammed Ali and shake his hand.
Sam is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie; daughters, Sunday Hadden and Raul Martinez, Serene Oliver and fiancé John Crocker; grandsons, Lawson and Lennon Oliver; brother, Tony (Shantelle) Chambers; sister, Beverly (Mike) Doyle; several nieces and nephews; He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine; two brothers, Bob and Linwood.
