COON, Max Orval, Jr. – of Genesee Township, MI, age 73, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Thursday, August 8, 2024 at The Rock Church of Fenton, 11499 Linden Road, Fenton, MI 48430; Pastor Jerry Pruett officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, immediately following the service in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery; Pastor Wes Morris officiating. The family will receive visitors 2-8 PM Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Thursday, August 8, 2024 at The Rock Church of Fenton, 11499 Linden Road, Fenton, MI 48430.
Max was born in Flint, MI on September 17, 1950, son of the late Max O. and Constance (Platt) Coon, Sr. He married Kathy (Pruett) Coon on August 5, 1972, in Flint, MI. Max was a graduate of Genesee High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps proudly serving his country for four years including service in Vietnam. Max graduated magna cum laude from Eastern Michigan University. He served as a public-school teacher for over 30 years working predominantly with special education students. Max loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully for over 50 years as a youth pastor, pastor, and numerous other positions in ministry. He loved his family deeply and had a tremendous number of close friendships. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Max loved to hunt, fish, cook, explore, play the trumpet, play games, root for Michigan Football, read, and most importantly, spend quality time with his family and friends.
Max is survived by his wife, Kathy Coon; daughter, Lisa (Tony) Alghawali; son, Jason (Kendalle) Coon; grandson, Jimmy Alghawali; 2 sisters, Diane Thomas and Tricia Coon; 3 brothers, Paul (Melody) Coon, John (Marianne) Coon and Jody (Wendy) Coon; along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Constance Coon, Sr.; sister, Gwendolyn Coon; 2 brothers, Fred Coon and Steven Coon; parents-in-law, Richard and Stella Louise Pruett; brother-in-law, Patrick Thomas.
