BARBER, David - age 60, of Providence, RI, formerly of Grand Blanc, died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Detroit Receiving Hospital in Detroit. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, July 10, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc with Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. David born April 25, 1955 in Flint, son of Raymond W. and Catherine (Pavelich) Barber and was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School and Central Michigan University. Dave was a true entertainer and a Flint icon. He did many renditions of famous lounge singers, his favorite being Frank Sinatra. Dave was a motivational speaker, salesman and broadcaster. One of his many famous mottos was “look them in the eye, have a firm handshake and shined shoes”. His career included being a DJ and talk radio host of the Dave Barber Show on WTRX, WTAC, and WFDF radio stations. Dave was a loving and outgoing man, who used his talents for charity spending countless hours on telethons raising money for United Way and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint among many others. He was a passionate broadcaster and interviewed hundreds of notable celebrities and politicians over the years, including the last interview of Jimmy Carter the night he was elected President and many appearances from his favorite guest, Nancy Sinatra. Dave made his national broadcasting debut with an appearance on “Meet the Press. " He was named two times in the “Top 100 Talk Show Host” and was honored at the Washington Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC. Most recently he was employed by the Rhode Island General Assembly and was the Capital TV host director of the show "Straight from the Gavel." He continued his charitable work and appearances in Rhode Island with the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket and other charities. He is survived by: son, Chase Seegmiller; brother, Larry Barber and wife, Linda of Spring Lake, MI; nephew, Chad Barber and wife, Gena of Grand Haven, MI; niece, Julie Ann (Barber) Fischer and husband, Joshua of Grand Haven, MI; uncle, Mike Floria and wife, Mary of Swartz Creek, MI and many cousins; former wife, Ann Burke; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a very special friend, his uncle Jerry Pavelich. Friends may share an online tribute on the obituary page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
