BATEY, Randal Crawford – of Davison, age 79, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on December 1, 2015. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Russ Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Friday and 10-11 AM Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Otisville Church of Christ.
Randal was born in Paragould, AR on August 18, 1936, son of the late Winford and Charlcy (Mangrum) Batey. The Batey family moved to Flint, MI in the early 1950’s after which Randal became employed by Chevrolet Manufacturing, where he worked as a skilled tradesman and a machine repair supervisor for 32 years. On October 5, 1956, Randal married his “Pretty Little Smooch” Frances Annette Adams. The couple enjoyed 59 beautiful years together. From their union came two children, Randal Wade Batey of Davison and Robyn Rene Brown of Burton. Randal was a devoted Christian with life-long active membership in the Church of Christ. He spent several years volunteering his time to run the Food Bank and Benevolence Program at Averill Avenue Church of Christ. Randal was also a celebrated song leader and deacon within his congregation and a current member of Otisville Church of Christ. He loved making memories with his six grandchildren, calling the time he spent with them “the best years” of his life. Randal also enjoyed tending to his farm, where he housed cows, ducks, turkeys and chickens every year and for which he had recently fully restored and rebuilt his 1949 Ford tractor.
Randal is survived by his wife, Frances; children, Randal Wade (Barbara) and Robyn Rene; grandchildren, Tifani, Tera, Katie, Brook, Logan and Taylor; his first great-grandchild, Elijah; siblings, Patricia Matney of Fenton, Bobby (Virginia) of Lapeer, Ruth Ann (Tom) Barrow of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, “Baby Joey”; brother, James “Jimmy” Batey; brother-in-law, Odis Matney. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
