Kozel, Stephen of Flushing, age 87, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Robert Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday until the time of Mass at the church. A Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Lions Club.
Stephen was born in Bedford, Ohio on August 30, 1926, the son of Stephan and Julia (Kundrat) Kozel. He married Jean Geiss on October 6, 1951 in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Kozel retired from General Motors after 40 years. He had been an active member at St. Robert Catholic Church for 44 years, where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister, Usher Captain, Friendly Visitor, taking Communion to the sick and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Men's Club, and Family Life Commission. Mr. Kozel was a former President of the Flushing Lions Club and was also very active in many community activities. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing and was a sports enthusiast. His family will remember the many things he taught them and how he always put his family first.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean; children, Mary “Lisa” Kozel, Peter and wife Jacquiline Kozel, Kerry and wife Nancy Kozel, Kevin and wife Caryse Kozel, Carolyn and husband Todd Williams, Bethany Kozel-Emmendorfer, Jeff and wife Angela Kozel; grandchildren, Eric, Jenny, Brett, Andrew, Kaylee, Cody, Jimmy, Sam, Sarah, Dorian; six great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Kozel; sister, Carol White. Mr. Kozel was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marion Monroe.
