PARISH, Annina Marie (DiCuozzo) – age 93, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014 in Grand Blanc, MI. Area basketball referees can rest easy. Anna has been called home. A journey that began on October 30, 1920 in Staten Island, New York has come to a peaceful end surrounded by family and friends. The oldest child of Italian immigrants Giuseppe and Giovannina DiCuozzo, she spent her early years in New York cheering for her beloved Yankees and volunteering in a local hospital to care for World War II servicemen. In 1947, she married William Everett Parish and moved to Flint, Michigan. They built their first and only home in the Bendle Community in 1949, where Anna’s love affair with Bendle sports began. Suffice it to say, that if a call was made against a Bendle athlete, she took it upon herself to let the official know (by any means necessary) a bad call had been made. William and Anna had two children, JoAnn and Bill, with whom she shared her greatest gifts; unconditional love, devotion, and unfettered tenacity. Her legacy is that these traits are clearly evident in each of her children, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking (known for the best lasagna, pizza, and dumplings), celebrating family milestones, and holding babies. She had a love and passion for life and will forever be remembered as GG. She worked at Kmart for over twenty years doing a young person’s job of unloading heavy boxes until she retired at 70 years old. She was a devoted Catholic and regularly attended mass at Holy Redeemer. She leaves behind her daughter, JoAnn Sly and husband Richard; son, William Parish and wife LeeAnn; her grandchildren, Jeanne Roth and husband Toby, Richard Sly Jr. and wife Tanya, Ryan Sly and wife Shannon, Kate Halchishick and husband Evan, Kristie Wagner and husband Brandon, Neil Parish and girlfriend Jessie Callis; her great grandchildren, Tyler, Kate, Ben, Trey, Toby, Emma, RJ, Sammy, William, Whitney, and Annina; and special friends, Darlene and Clay. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years William Parish; her younger brothers, Matteo and Carmine DiCuozzo; and other relatives. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Wynwood and Gentiva Hospice for all of their loving care. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Bendle Athletic Department in Anna Parish’s honor. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 4PM-8PM and again Monday, December 22, from 1PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM. A rosary service will be held 7PM Monday evening. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church – 1227 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI 48529. Fr. Steve Anderson celebrant. Entombment following at Crestwood Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hillfh.com. Arrangements provided by Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S.
