HICKS, Robert John - Of Grand Blanc, age 78, died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30am Monday, July 8, 2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 6336 Roberta Street, Burton, Father John Machiorlatti officiating.
Cremation will take place following the Mass with burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation 2-9pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 6pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10:30am Monday at church until the time of the Mass.
Robert was born in Birch Run, Michigan on November 17, 1940, the son of Alfred and Charys (Ostrander) Hicks. He proudly served in the United States Army and continued his service after in the Army Reserves for 20 years. On May 21, 1966 he married Sylvia Kovacs and this year celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Robert retired from General Motors after over 40 years. He was an avid reader and loved history and skiing. He also had a great comedic turn on a phrase like no other. Robert could fix anything and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Above all, Robert was a loving husband, devoted father and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are wife, Sylvia;
children, Christopher Hicks (Maria Padilla) and Nicole (Shawn)Bowen;
grandsons, Austin and Dylan Bowen;
sister, Barbara LeVac;
and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Charys and brother, James Hicks.
