GREEN, Hughlan D. – Of Swartz Creek, MI, age 82, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at
Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 5176 West Court Street, Flint, Pastor Martin B. Watkins officiating.
Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Visitation 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Mr. Green will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
Hugh was born May 26, 1931, to Arthur L. and Sadie R. (Cooper) Green in Flint, Michigan.
He graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1949. He worked for Fisher Body #2 and Flint Truck Plant, retiring as a Specification Inspector in February 1980, with 31 years of service.
He served in the Army from 1952-1953, receiving a Purple Heart Medal.
Hughlan married Catherine M. (Smith, Patty) on October 1, 1977 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 2012.
Hugh served on the Mills Township Property Tax Review Board for 19 years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a Charter Member of the World War II Museum and also a Charter Member of the Korean War Museum.
Hugh served for 5 years as Deacon at the Skidway Lake Baptist Church, and is a member of the Judson Baptist Church in Prescott, Michigan. They attend the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Swartz Creek, Michigan.
Surviving are three children, Marilyn (Scott) Gillis, Harold Kenneth (Lorri) Patty and Merlene (William) Black;
grandchildren, Steven (Chelsea) Gillis, Brian Gillis, Brittney (Robert) Kachelski and Eric Patty;
brother, Kenneth R. (Katherine) Green of Springhill, Florida and Durand, Michigan;
nephews, John Green of Swartz Creek, MI and Matthew (Pamela) Green of Farmington, Michigan;
numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Hughlan was preceded in death by parents, Arthur L. and Sadie R. Green and an older brother, William L. Green.
