SPROLES, Gerald “Hillbilly” – Of Burton, age 77, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Rob Prince officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.
Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation 12 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Gerald was born in Bluefield, Virginia on October 10, 1939, the son of the late Kenneth and Lora Sproles.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps.
On January 5, 1962 he married Ernestine Tickle.
He was a member of Central Church of the Nazarene.
He was an avid Michigan State Football fan.
Mr. Sproles retired in 1997 from GM Buick Plant #36, after 32 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #599. After retirement, Jerry worked for Swartz Funeral Home and loved his work family.
Surviving are wife, Ernestine;
three children, Tammy and husband Bob Faris,
Rhonda Samson,
Gerald W., Jr. and wife Sandy;
4 granddaughters; 3 great-granddaughters; 8 great-grandsons;
two sisters, Katherine and Judith;
two half-sisters, Ramona and Barbara;
one half-brother, Greggory and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his half-sister, Becky.
