Lea, William Allen "Bill" - of Chesaning, age 87, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, October 27, 2014 at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Pastor Ron Shamel officiating. Private burial in Montrose Township Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Montrose American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday from 2-7 PM and Monday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Contributions may be made to the Montrose Area Historical Association, Montrose United Methodist Church, Corunna United Methodist Church or Memorial Healthcare Home Health and Hospice.

Bill was born to the late Eldred and Mabel (Quackenbush) Lea on June 10, 1927 in Burt, MI. He married Elizabeth Chandler on December 1, 1951. Staff Sgt. William Lea is a World War II, U.S. Army Veteran. He served in the Philippines during the war and was honorably discharged in 1947. Bill was employed in the floral industry for many years, serving as president of the North Eastern Michigan Floral Association. He also worked for Calvert John Deere Sales. Bill was also employed at O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes for 22 years. He served as Village president, City councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem in Montrose for over 20 years. He was also a part-time member of the Montrose Police Dept. Bill was past president of the Montrose Music Boosters and the Montrose Area Historical Assoc. Bill and Liz were honored as Grand Marshals of the Montrose Blueberry Festival parade in 2000. Bill was a longtime member of the Montrose United Methodist Church and presently the Corunna United Methodist Church.

Surviving are: loving wife, Liz Lea of Chesaning; 3 sons: David (Sue) of Owosso, Daniel of Boise, ID and Dwight "Ike" of Grand Ledge; 1 daughter, Dena (Clark) Dohahue of Sunnyvale, CA; 10 grandchildren, Catherine (Corey) Grice, William (Mara) Lea, Nick Lea, Lindsay (Jason) Fry, Devin Lea, Paige Lea, Jacob Lea, Allison Donahue, Kathleen Donahue, and Ryan Donahue; 1 great grandson, Jaxson Fry; Sister, Janet (Lewis) Carr of Tucson, AZ. Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Joyce Baumgardt; brother-in-law, Marvin Baumgardt; infant son, John Allen Lea; 5 brothers-in-law: Robert, Elmore, Ray, Harold, and Edwin; sisters-in-law: Carol and Wanda. Bill's family would like to especially thank Dr. Mahmood, Dr. Devisetty, Dr. Forsyth, P.A. Michael Persons and staff. Also the wonderful staff at Memorial Cancer Center, the staff at MCVI and Adele, Sue, Theresa at Memorial Healthcare & Hospice. Bill's journey through this difficult time was eased by these caring people.
