PAYNE, Mrs. Candia Maria - age 52, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Ebenezer Ministries, 2130 S. Center Rd., Burton, MI. with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Bishop Urundi Knox officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Payne will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Candia Maria Payne was born on April 19, 1962 in Flint, MI to Mr. Willie J. Peterson and Mrs. Betty Mosley-Maberry. A very vibrant individual, she attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Central High School. Upon graduation, she united in marriage with Mr. Clifford Payne Jr. and to this union three children were born: Darnell James Payne, Dewon Martes Payne and Ashley Elizabeth Payne (deceased). Candia completed her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate from Ross Medical School. She continued her education at Mott Community College where she graduated with an Associate of Science Degree as a Registered Nurse. Candia was employed at Grand Blanc Convalescent Home as a CNA then acquired employment at Hurley Medical Center where she passionately worked in the Emergency Room. As a Registered Nurse she worked in Hurley’s Burn Unit and Joint and Spine Replacement Rehab until she was unable to work due to her illness. Mrs. Candia Maria Payne accepted Christ while attending Vernon Chapel AME Church as a child. After matrimony, she joined her husband at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. Later, she united in membership with Ebenezer Ministries where she also served as a faithful choir member. Mrs. Payne greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaining her family and friends where she was famous for her fried chicken within the family. She also enjoyed attending gospel and jazz concerts. She was an avid reader and loved to shop, travel, watch DVDS and complete word searches.
Mrs. Payne leaves to cherish her memories: husband of twenty-three years, Clifford Lee Payne, Jr.; sons, Darnell James Payne, Dewon Martes Payne all of Flint; parents, Betty (Calvin) Mosley-Maberry and Willie J. Peterson of Bessemer, AL and friend Vera King; sisters, Diana (Arthur) Wright, Autumn Peterson, Tammy Gill of Grand Blanc, MI and fiancée Ronny Wilson of Lansing, MI and Corey (Darius) Brown of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers, Calvin Maberry Jr. of Jackson, MS and Cornelius Maberry of Atlanta, GA; in-laws, Clifford L. (Ithilan) Payne, Sr., brother-in-laws, Darrell (Bobbie) Payne of Minneapolis, MN, Patrick P. Payne of Dearborn, MI and Bruce E. Payne of East Lansing, MI and a host of loving nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by daughter Ashley Elizabeth Payne; grandparents, uncles and aunts.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Syed A. Sattar, Dr. Osama Sayed, Dr. Marc Webb of Southfield, MI; DaVita Dialysis Center of Davison Rd. and Ballenger Pointe, Hurley Medical Center Emergency Room and 4E ICU.
