Lawrence “Smitty” W. Smith, Jr., age 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born on July 27, 1932 in West Virginia to parents Lawrence and Ethel (Watson) Smith, Sr. Smitty proudly served in the United States Army and later retired from General Motors after working as a machinist for 39 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and he truly loved his Thursday morning Bible Study. Smitty will be remembered for his compassion and kindness towards everyone he helped. Smitty is survived by his wife, Sandra Smith; son, John (Maureen) McKay; step daughter, Geraldine (Gary) Boven; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; two daughters-in-law. He was preceded in death by both parents; his first wife, Nelda Smith; two sisters and two step sons. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, with Pastors Gary Boven and Aaron Whitman officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 1-4pm and 6-8pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, and again on Saturday at church, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1pm. Condolences may be shared with the family on-line at www.hillfh.com. |
