Elder Freddie Lee Brown Jr.

Born: 7/11/1960
Died: 3/26/2020
Age: 59
Community: Grand Blanc, MI

Elder Freddie Lee Brown Jr. was born on July 11, 1960, weighing 7lbs. 11oz. at 7:11am at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Michigan. He was the fourth child of Deacon Freddie Lee Brown Sr. and Church Mother Ida Louise Brown. He was nicknamed “Lucky” by his father noting the coincidental numbers around his birth. That nickname remained with him throughout his life. Lucky attended Flint Community Schools and graduated from Southwestern High School in 1978. He was granted a full ride basketball scholarship to Southern Methodist University in University Park, TX. Lucky was a great athlete; basketball, softball, baseball you name it he played it. He played on many Intramural Championship basketball teams. Lucky worked for Meijer Thrifty Acres as a produce clerk and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He would always greet you with a smile. Lucky loved people and was an unconditional giver.
Music was a large part of Lucky’s family growing up. He and his brothers all played. Luther was a skilled drummer, Winda (Big Bubba) played the saxophone and Lucky played the bass. In his younger days he could be found on 1525 Kent Street rocking out with his cousins, The Walker Band. Lucky was saved under the leadership of his cousin Supt. J. E. Walker Jr. and he became an ordained Elder under the leadership of Pastor Kevelin B. Jones Sr. He loved to sing and praise God. Elder Brown was a true servant. He was elated to become elevated to the position on National Adjutant Brother. Elder Brown served his local church, Jackson Memorial COGIC (under the leadership of Pastor Keimba Knowlin), his jurisdiction, Michigan North Central (under the leadership of Bishop J. Drew Sheard) and the National Church Adjutancy Core of the COGIC (under the leadership of Bishop Robert. G. Rudolph Jr.) with humility.
Lucky was married to Cassandra (Robinson) Brown for 35 years. The most loving and caring man she’d ever met (her honey). Lucky treated Sandy like a queen and he was always a perfect gentleman. Together, they traveled the country. They had plans to grow old and gray together, but God had a greater plan and we bow to his will. Through this union, Lucky and Sandy gave birth to their “Miracle Baby”, Freddie “Boopie” Brown III. Lucky adored Freddie and was supportive of all his endeavors and dreams. He was a true family man that LOVED family gatherings. Lucky would often “pop-up” to visit family on holidays and his visits always consisted of trips down memory lane and lots of laughter.
Elder Brown had a sense of style that was unmatched. He was the sharpest dresser around and was affectionately referred to as the “Mad Scientist” of style. Elder Brown’s iPad was filled with pictures of garments he laid out for various occasions. He was very meticulous with the details all the way down to the socks and cuff links. Through the years Lucky helped others like James D. Richardson Sr. develop their own sense of style. He could always be found in a perfectly fitted Jag the Haberdasher garment. He embodied the word dapper.
