Kirbitz, Richard A. “Dick”, aged 94, of Flint, Michigan, died peacefully on April 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, April 24, 2017, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave, Flint. Burial following at Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris, MI.Family will receive visitors from 1-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday, April 23, at Sharp Funeral Home, 6063 Fenton Rd, Flint,. and on Monday at the church from 10 AM to the time of service. A rosary will be 7 PM Sunday, followed by K of C 3rd and 4th degree prayer services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities in Dick’s memory. Dick was born October 19, 1922, in Flint, the son of August H. and Marie T. (Jacobs) Kirbitz. After graduating from Flint Northern High School, attending classes at GMI, and working at AC, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, proudly serving his county in South Pacific Base Command from 1942 until 1945 (or has he would always say 3 years, one month, and 17 days.) Soon after his discharge, he began employment with Buick Motor Division, retiring in 1986 with forty-two years of service with General Motors.Dick married Leona M. Kolena in Flint, on April 29, 1950. Their reception was held at Zehnder’s in Frankenmuth, where they faithfully celebrated their anniversary every year for nearly 67 years. Lifelong residents of Flint and Flint Township, Dick and Leona raised two children, Rick and Kevin. In retirement, Dick was active with the Knights of Columbus and held various offices in Msgr. Patrick R. Dunigan Assembly 0510, including the honorary office of Admiral Emeritus. Dick and Leona enjoyed the company of friends and family for many years at their annual Christmas parties and more recently at the Big Boy Restaurant in Clio, where he enjoyed his special multi-grain pancake, “thin,” with a healthy slathering of margarine, peanut butter, jelly, and syrup. Dick was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters: Marie Kirbitz, May (Theodore) Huber, Evelyn (Harry) Sisler, Leonard (Virginia) Kirbitz, Dorothy (Dean) McCarthy, Helen Kirbitz, John Kirbitz, and Willis Kirbitz. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Leona; sons Richard (Mary Ann) of Flushing, MI, and Kevin (Denise) of Grand Blanc, MI; grandchildren Jonathan, Michael (Christine), Kellie, and Ryan; goddaughter Darlene Becker.
