EIKEY, Willard R. - Of Flint Township, age 90, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Mike Depcik officiating.

Per Willard’s wishes cremation will take place following the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Communication Access Center or St. Mark Catholic Chapel for the Deaf in Fenton.

Visitation 12-3p.m. and 5-8p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Eikey will be at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.

Willard was born in Rudyard, Michigan on October 12, 1921, the son of the late Charles and Lucy Eikey. Willard married Katherine Askler on May 26, 1951 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Flint. Willard attended the Michigan School for the Deaf. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Chapel in Fenton and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, the Flint Association of the Deaf and the Sportsmans Club for the Deaf. Willard’s family was his priority and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He retired from Buick Motor Division in 1984, after 30 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #599.

Surviving are loving wife of 60 years, Katherine;

2 children, Brenda Tushim of Swartz Creek, and Kevin and wife Lisa of Goodrich;

5 grandchildren, Adrian and wife Patti Tushim of Flint, Scott and wife Cathy Tushim of Swartz Creek, Kat Tushim and fiancé Gabriel Ratliff both of Chicago, Benjamin Eikey currently attending the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and Erik Eikey of Goodrich;

5 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Cheyenne, Alex, Monique and Layne Tushim;

several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilfred and Ernest;

sisters, Katherine, Edna, Eileen and Marjorie.
