Louis Clinton Dortch, Sr. - age 93, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2024, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, surrounded by the love of his family and his dear friend, Barnie Bishop - a fitting farewell for a man whose greatest treasure was always those he held dear. Lou lived in Grand Blanc, spending many years on Lake Fenton and wintering in Hobe Sound, FL. He was born on December 21, 1930, in Monette, Arkansas, the son of Troy and Isabelle (Knight) Dortch. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School and Michigan State University. Lou married Johannah Beurmann on June 12, 1954, and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2018. He proudly served as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. His time in the military was a testament to his character-one that flourished in service to others. Lou led a life marked by commitment, diligence, and a profound love for family and community. Lou embarked on a long and successful business career that spanned across Genesee County and throughout Michigan. His entrepreneurial spirit saw him leave an indelible mark in the region with established ventures, including Troy Cleaners, Subway, Qdoba restaurants, Halo Burger, and Taco Bell. He is survived by his four loving daughters: Debbie and her husband, David Motter of North Port; Amy and her husband, Richard Berthiaume of Grand Blanc; Patsy and her husband, Matthew Dillon of Grand Blanc; and Polly Dortch-Conlan of Grand Blanc. His cherished son, Louis C. Dortch, Jr., and his wife, Denise, also of Grand Blanc, continue to carry forward his legacy. Lou was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Michael (Maegan) Cummings, Theo Dillon, Elisabeth (Josh) Dipzinski, Chad Dillon, Max (Alexis) Motter, Chelsea Conlan and fiancé, Marco Ferrer-Ruiz, Madison Dortch and David Vela, Sophia Clothier and Jackson Clothier. He also delighted in being a great-grandfather to seven wonderful children: Johannah, Makayla, Mathilda, Valerie, Fletcher, Eliza and Mia. A dear friend and companion, Elizabeth "Barnie" Bishop, also mourns his passing, remembering the countless joyful moments they shared. Lou was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johannah B. Dortch, and his sister, Leslie Sill. The memories of their time together bring light to the hearts of his family. As we reflect upon the life of Louis Clinton Dortch, Sr., we celebrate a man of remarkable integrity and warmth. His enduring spirit will remain woven into the fabric of his family and community-a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication that shall not be forgotten.
