POULOS, George R. – Of Flint, age 87, died after a three year battle with renal cancer and chronic pulmonary disease on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Caretel Inns of Linden.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Deacon Ron Kenney officiating.
Visitation 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home.

George was born in Flint, MI on December 11, 1926 and was a resident of Flint all of his life.
He married Yvonne Frechette on December 6, 1952 and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2011.
He was involved in Flint City politics from 1960-1974 as 8th Ward City Commissioner, Mayor of Flint from 1962-1964, and was a County Councilman.
George was employed at Ameritech Yellow Pages for 25 years in Advertising Sales and retired in 1987.
He volunteered for 30 years at Bay Cliff Health Camp.
He was a member of Post #64 American Legion and life member of 8th Air Force Historical Society.
George spear headed the Eternal Flame at McFarlan Park in Flint and was instrumental in the ground breaking of Sunset Boulevard.
He was a member of the National Museum of U.S. Air Force and NRA and
was a member of the American Museum in Britain.
Surviving two children, Bradley J. and Dianne K.;
nephew, Dennis (Brenda) Poulos;
great-nephews, Nathan (Julie) Poulos and Ryan (Jenna) Poulos;
great-great-nephew, Issac;
sister-in-law, Rosalie Poulos;
several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James D.; parents, Samuel and Norma.
