MIXON, Michael J. – Of Grand Blanc, age 76, died Monday, July 6, 2015 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Rob King
officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Visitation 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Michael was born in Southgate, CA on February 16, 1939, the son of S.T. and Willa (Dunaway) Mixon.
He lived in Traverse City, Mt. Morris and the Flint area most of his life.
Mr. Mixon was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He served as an Airman-First Class from 1959-1961.
He was a member of the Flint Golf Club, the American Carpenters Association, the Flint Elks Club and was a 32nd Degree Mason.
Michael played in the New Horizon Band, sponsored by the Flint Institute of Art.
Mr. Mixon was a building contractor with unique talent as a trim carpenter. He also worked at Fisher Body I as a Master Journeyman Millwright and eventually transitioned to management as salaried Supervisor, retiring in 1991 after 30 plus years of service.
Surviving are son, Michael Todd (Tracy) of Long Valley, New Jersey;
daughters, Dana Michelle (Michael Witkin) of Grand Rapids, Michigan,
Bridget (Dominic) Foster of Grand Blanc, Michigan;
9 grandchildren, Chip (Colleen), Lexie, Gabriel, Marc, Katya, Mishka, Michael, Quinton (Randi) and Maverick;
great-granddaughter, Elsie Foster;
nieces and nephews, Ron Thierbach (Beth), Tammy McCrandall (Phil) and Traci Starr(Mike), and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mixon was a devout U of M football fan. His passions included golf, music, painting, custom woodworking, his family and grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Sugarbush, Ann Arbor VA, Genesys and Reverence Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reverence Hospice.
Mr. Mixon was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dixie Cummings.
