Hazel Lanora Kalakay, age 96, of Columbiaville, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024. Born on June 23, 1928, in Gideon, Missouri, Hazel was a beacon of love and laughter in the lives of all who knew her.
Hazel's early years instilled in her a strong sense of community and joy for life, traits that she carried throughout her days. Hazel's vivacious spirit and infectious humor brought warmth and delight to her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.
A devoted mother, Hazel leaves behind her loving daughter, Susan Goodrow. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Carrie (John) Sorenson and Toby (Maria) Wildman, who will forever cherish the memories and lessons imparted by their remarkable grandmother. Hazel is also survived by her sister, Carolee Cronk, and her companion, George Sredich, who provided companionship and joy in her later years. We can’t forget her four-legged fur grand babies (dogs): Ember, Tinsley, Tizzy, and Paisley that she loved to talk about and have sit on her lap.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lanora Livingston, her beloved husband, Charlie, and her brother, Charles. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her loved ones who passed before her.
An active participant in life's pleasures, Hazel's interests were many and varied. She was an enthusiastic member of the Red Hat Society, relishing in the camaraderie and adventures the group offered. Her competitive spirit shone brightly on the golf course, at the bingo hall, and in the bowling alley. Hazel also found great solace and satisfaction in tending to her flower beds and preserving precious memories through scrapbooking.
Those who knew Hazel will remember her as a loving, funny, and spirited soul. Her laughter could light up a room, and her kindness touched the hearts of many. Hazel's life was a testament to the joy that can be found in everyday moments, and her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
