MCCRILLIS, Donald E. – Of Clio, age 85, died Monday, October 5, 2020, at his daughter’s residence, with his family by his side. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place, and services will be planned at a later time. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Don’s name.
Donald was born January 6, 1935 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Clarence and Cleo (Howard) McCrillis. As a boy, he grew up in the Juddville area, and that is where he would attend school. He married the love of his life, the former Maxine Joan Licquia on August 9, 1954 at her parent’s home in Flint, she sadly passed away on July 7, 2019. They started their lives living in Flint and eventually moved and raised their family in Clio. Donald worked as a mechanic for several years for Tom Gleason Volkswagen and later was employed at Al Serra in Grand Blanc, where he retired in 2000. He and Maxine were members of the Goldwing Road Riders – Flint Chapter. He enjoyed hoping on his motorcycle and taking rides with Maxine all over the state. He liked making his own jewelry, which many of his family still wear, camping in their motorhome, hunting, and taking his annual trips to Wyoming during deer season. He would learn to play the piano, and eventually moved to playing the organ. He could be found playing and dancing for many years at the Yugoslavian Croatian Club in Flint and the Russellville Ballroom. A special Thank You to Chele, Todd and Shawna for their special care of dad. And to his Big Boy family, of Ron, Jim, Susie and Lisa, where he would go 1 to 2 times a day.
Surviving are: his loving children; Donald (Chelly) McCrillis, Cynthia Tadrick, Debra (Richard) Hammel, LuAnn (Edward III) Ferguson and Michele (Todd) McGuire; 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren with one on the way and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maxine, his oldest daughter Kendra McCrillis (July 27, 2019), his parents Clarence and Cleo and siblings Juanita, LaWanda and Desmond.
