MITCHELL, John - Of Grand Blanc, age 93, loving husband, father and grand-father, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015 at Abbey Park Assisted Living.
Visitation 1-6pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the funeral home.
Pastor Steve Hittle officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
John was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on November 1, 1921. He graduated from Central High School in Flint, Class of 1939. John also attended GMI. John served in the Army in New Caledonia in the South Pacific during World War II. He completed training at Mid-West Motive Trades Institute. On August 26, 1945, he married Famah Margene Hendren. They celebrated their 68th Wedding Anniversary. John retired from AC Spark Plug Division after 34 ½ years as a job-setter. He was a member of Congregational Church of Christ in Grand Blanc and a former longtime member of Central Christian Church. John enjoyed bowling and playing golf. He and Fay traveled with Senior Adventures for many years. They also enjoyed square and ballroom dancing.
Surviving are daughters, Lois LaBarge, Linda and husband Jimmy Canaday;
grandchildren, Angela Mangett, Timothy LaBarge and wife Sarah, Cameron Canaday and Chole Canaday;
great-grandchildren, Matthew, Macy, Holden, Ally, Jayda, Ella Fay, Leighton, Samantha, Payton, Timothy, Taylor and Hannah;
and great-great-grandchild, Kaden.
John was preceded in death by wife, Fay, on January 19, 2014.
