Mother Gladys V. Hodge was born October 11,1923 in Michigan City, Ind., the daughter of Minnie and Johnson. She moved from Michigan City, Ind., to Pontiac, Mi. and later relocated to Flint where she graduated from Flint Northern High School.
She was a member of Antioch M.B. Church where she accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Metropolitan M.B. Church where she served as secretary under Rev. Edwards and a member of the Senior Choir, the Mother’s Board and the True Light Mission Circle. Mother Hodge worked as an Elevator Operator at Genesee Banks and A.C. Spark Plug and retired from the Flint Public Library in 1988. She loved playing softball, bowling and tennis.
She married twice and from both marriages two children were born who mourn death; Patricia Hodge, grandson, Stephen Proby, great grandson Zachariah Proby, 2 sisters Erma Stringe and Dorothy Odom, brother-in-law, Lewis Bluford. A host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death her son, Frederick Vincent III, parents, 2 brothers, Cornelius Johnson and Henry Johnson, 2 sisters Frances Collins and Ernestine Bluford. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
