CANNING, Thomas Leo - Age 82, of Fenton, died Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton. Fr. Ryan Riley celebrant. Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Friday from 4 -8 PM where a rosary will be prayed at 7 PM and at church Saturday from 10 AM until the time of the Mass.
Thomas was born June 14, 1937 in Flint, the son of Stephen and Mary Agnes (Foy) Canning. He was a 1956 graduate of St. Michael Catholic High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Josephine Anna Ryan May 26, 1962 in Clio, and she preceded him in death November 23, 2002. Thomas retired from GM Chevrolet Manufacturing. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Fenton Eagles #2460.
Surviving are: his children, Thomas (Lynn) Canning of Pinckney, Laura (Rodger) Evans of Brighton, and Daniel Canning of Fenton. grandchildren, Ryan (Miranda) Evans of Texas, Kelsey Evans of Illinois, Eric (Rachel) Evans of Royal Oak, Tyler Canning of Dexter, Anna Canning of Dexter, Kelly Canning of Fenton, and Alexander Canning of Fenton; brother, Pat (Colette) Canning of Florida, sisters, Catherine McGuire of Grand Blanc, Rita Doherty of Fenton, Irene (Clare) Abbott of Georgia, Karen (Dave) Aldorfer of Rochester Hills, and Colleen (Dennis) Paradowski of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.
