PARKS, Marjorie Jeanette (Baur) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on December 16th, 2019. While disappointed that she did not live to see another new decade, she lived a full 99 and half years.
She was born on July 26, 1920 to Walter and Sybilla Baur in Flint, Michigan, where she lived until she was 90. She married Edward A. Parks in August of 1940 after meeting him while roller skating at a local roller rink. An original Rosie the Riveter, she began working for General Motors in 1945 and retired in 1975. She was still a staunch and proud member of the UAW when she died. She and Ed raised two beautiful children and delighted in their four grandchildren. She was known as GiGi to her marvelous five great-grandchildren.
Marge was an avid fisherwoman, soap opera watcher, and card player. She was the matriarch of a large and rambunctious extended family. She showed up to every family gathering carrying her famous carrot cake, though, she would never share the real recipe for her delicious frosting. She made up for her secrecy by crocheting each and every baby in the family an amazing afghan. She even had the foresight to crochet a few extra and put them away for the next generation.
She will be dearly missed by those she left behind including her daughter, Kathy McCauliff and son, Edward Parks (Caprice Castano). She is also survived by her four grandchildren- Kristen McCauliff (Andrew Shermeta), Kourtney McCauliff (Chris Flook), Lindsey Arnould (John Thomas Arnould), and Edward Parks (Stephanie Brooks); and five great grandchildren- Hunter Quinn, Ava Arnould, Marlowe Shermeta, Sloane Shermeta and Gatlin Arnould. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward, her siblings Roy, William, Rose, Imogene, and Eugene, and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you support St. Paul Lutheran Church and School or Shriners Hospitals for Children on her behalf. Visitation is 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10 am and Funeral services will be conducted at 11am on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 402 S. Ballenger Highway, Flint. Pastor Brant Engel officiating.
