MATTARELLA, Samuel Paul – Of Clayton Township, age 92, died Thursday, October 24, 2019 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,
Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Entombment at Crestwood cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Absolute Hospice or charity of one’s choice.
Visitation 4-8pm Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Knights of Columbus service will be held immediately before a Rosary at 7pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10am Wednesday at church until the time of the Mass.
Samuel was born in Flint on May 14, 1927, the son of the late William and Rose (Verengo) Mattarella.
Mr. Mattarella served in the U.S. Navy.
On October 24, 1952, he married Annette L. Lane and they were married 67 years to the date of his passing. Samuel was employed with General Motors for 45 years as a Researcher. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing and had a large vegetable garden. Samuel was a skilled woodworker and carver. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
Surviving are wife, Annette;
children, David Mattarella, Gina (Ron) Samek, and John (Pamela) Mattarella;
grandchildren, Nicole (Rogerio) Mendes, Angela (Mark) Haines, Cortney (Geoff) Koch, Dominic (Stephanie) Mallory, Trevor (Jessica) Mattarella, Anthony (Sarah) Mattarella and Megann (Roger) Tauck;
and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Philip Mattarella and daughter-in-law, Sue Mattarella.
