CRONER, KENNETH W. Age 93, died August 5, 2017. He was born in Westerville, Ohio, March 22, 1924; however, he had lived in the Flint and Grand Blanc area since 1931. Ken was one of the first students to attend Flint Technical High School and in the first group to graduate in 1942. After graduation, he joined Fisher Body Division, Flint #1, General Motors Corporation (GMC) as an indentured apprentice machinist in the Tool & Die activity. Ken served in WWII with Company G of the 333 Infantry in the 84th Infantry Division, as a Combat Infantryman and fought through the Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns. He was seriously wounded in Hanover, Germany and awarded the Purple Heart and many other service medals. Ken returned home and in 1946 married Anne Bartfay. Ken attended General Motors Institute (GMI), now Kettering University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in1951. Ken pioneered the setting of labor standards to skilled trade operations and shared in the development and utilization of the computer for the scheduling and control of tool and die construction. He taught Body Engineering Drawing and Applied Sciences at GMI, and Applied Sciences at Mott Community College. He retired from Fisher Body Division, Grand Blanc Plant, GMC, as Superintendent of Industrial Engineering in1981. Ken was a life member of the Railsplitters Society of the 84th Infantry Division, and a life member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan - Grand Blanc Lodge #571, Masonic High Twelve Club #673, Grand Council Royal and Select Masters, Genesee Valley Commandery #15 Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Bodies, Elf Khurafeh Shrine, Shrine Security Unit, and several Shrine clubs. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Genesee #3 chapter, the American Legion Post #413, and a Millennium member of the National Rifle Association, the Michigan Antique Arms Collector, and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association. He and his wife were lifelong members of Club Clarendon, a dinner dance club. He was also a lifetime member of the Flint Rock and Gem Club. Surviving are his wife Anne, daughter Kathryn (Michael) Duckworth, and son Craig (Patti) Croner. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Christopher W. Croner for whom an Earth Science Scholarship was established at the University of Michigan, Flint Campus. There are four grandchildren: Aaron Croner, William Croner and family.
