HOCKEN, Calvin Charles – age 90, went to be with his savior May 10, 2018. He died surrounded by family, following several months of poor health. A Celebration of Life is planned on June 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church of Flint – 6434 Richfield Road, Flint, MI. The family will greet visitors at the church from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM at the church. Cal was born April 29, 1928, the only child of Leslie and Everil Hocken. He graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1946. He married his wife Dorene in 1949. They were married 64 years. They had three children, David of Grand Blanc, Daniel (Mary) of Grand Blanc, and Karen (Doug) Steiner of South Carolina. There are 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Cal was an apprentice at Die Maker at Buick. He worked there for 41 years, retiring as a staff project engineer. After retirement Cal volunteered at Crisis Pregnancy Center, Carriage Town Ministries, and Genesys. At Genesys, he was in the knee and hip area for over twenty years. His hobbies included cars, boats, and woodworking. He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church most of his life. He joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in 2003 until the present.
