QUALMAN, Edith Joan – of Flint, age 83, passed away June 24, 2013 at Genesys Hospice Care Center – Goodrich. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, June 27, 2013 at West Court Street Church of God, 2920 West Court St., Flint; Pastor Mike Case officiating. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to West Court Street Church of God Memorial Fund.
Edith was born in Frederic, MI on November 22, 1929, daughter of the late John and Edith (Shreve) Payne. She married Wilber Qualman on July 25, 1970 and he preceded her in death. Edie was a member of West Court St. Church of God for many years and was very active in the church, having attended Trinity Circle, many Bible classes, Sunday school classes, Merry Makers, volunteered in the church office, worked extensively with the food pantry, worked with serving funeral dinners, visited the sick at hospitals and in Nursing Homes, and was a member of the missions board. She formerly volunteered at Carriage Town Ministries and at Kith Haven Nursing Home. Edith was a member of the West Flint Community watch and went on road patrols, she also volunteered at the West Flint Mini Police station. She traveled extensively both in the United States and in other countries and went on at least one mission trip.
Edith is survived by her step-children, Dan (Sally) Qualman, Sharon (Stephen) Burkhart; step-daughter-in-law, Drusilla Qualman; step-grandchildren, Jessamine, Rebecca, Tamara, Rachel, Leah, Kelly, Tom and Maria; many nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family. She was preceded in death by brothers, John and Jim Payne; sisters, Gretchen Welch and Ruth Shawl; step-son, Steven Qualman.
