SWAFFORD, Syble I. - Of Flint, age 91, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2014 at McLaren-Flint.

Syble was born in Calhoun, Georgia on July 5, 1922, to the late Frank J. Richardson and Mattie Love Thomas. She attended Belwood School. Syble was a stay-at-home mother for most of the growing years of her three children, Glenda Carol Isaacson, Marsha G. S. Douglas and the late Winnie R. Swafford. After her children grew up she became employed by K-Mart and retired after 20 years in advertising, service desk, etc. Syble was also devoted to the Lord. She taught Sunday School at Dimond Methodist Church for many years and was an active member until she went home to be with her Lord. She touched many young lives and was still in touch with many of those loved ones up to today. Everyone knew her as Nan, Mom, Ma, Miss Syble, Mother, Grandmother, neighbor and friend.

Syble is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Glenda Carol Isaacson and Richard of Swartz Creek, Marsha G. S. Douglas and Jerry of Grand Blanc; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Teresa) Lamb, Timothy Isaacson, Tamara (Lamb)(Jason) Brown, Jeffrey (Debbie) Isaacson, Jeri Ann (Douglas) Gates , Jennifer Douglas and Jessica (Douglas) (husband Jim) Eldredge; 15 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Grantner, Jackson Lamb, Savannah Isaacson, Abigail Isaacson, Kylie Isaacson, Emma Isaacson, Jared Isaacson, Sara Isaacson, Joslyn Brown, Conner Brown, Darby Gates, Saxton Gates, Dakota Eldredge, William and Lucas Eldredge and one great great granddaughter, Gracelyn J. (Grantner) Rett. Syble also leaves six surviving sisters, Ruby Richardson, Susie (Richardson) Gray, Frances (Richardson) Ball, Helen Richardson, Ann Moore and Margaret (Richardson) Cartwright, along with many nieces and nephews, all of whom are happy to call her “Aunt Syble.” She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Swafford and her daughter, Winnie R. Swafford, brothers Thomas Richardson, John Frank (Bo) Richardson, Henry Richardson, Charlie Richardson and sister, Winnie (Richardson) Watkins.

One especially close friend (like a daughter) Phyllis Terry, who walked with her during good times and bad. Another very close friend (like a son) Curtis Turner, anytime she needed anything all she had to do is call he was “Johnny on the spot.”

She embraced life and constantly affirmed her appreciation for the many blessings she had been given. She was compassionate and kind, showering her unconditional love to all those around her and through example to others leaving this world a little bit better for each and every person she encountered. She also loved to cook for her neighbors and friends and we’re sure Syble will be greatly missed by all those who loved her and were touched by her.
