HOORNSTRA, EDWARD E. – Of Swartz Creek, age 81, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at McLaren-Flint.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 14, 2024 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. at Holiday Shores RV Resort Holiday House, 10915 Goodall Road, Durand, MI 48429, enter thru Holiday Meadows Golf Course.
Ed was born in Owosso, Michigan on October 2, 1942, the son of the late Robert G.C. and Mary Francis (Heeling) Hoornstra. He was taken in and cared for by George and Alma Boomer. Ed was reunited with his birth family in 2007, at the age of 64, at his sister Viola’s in Owosso. He married Janet Irwin on May 25, 1996. Ed retired as a Welder Repairman from Chrysler. He was a member of Lott Baptist Church in Glennie, Michigan, Barton City FOE 4141 and was a life member of the MOOSE. Ed was also a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Christian Motorcycle Association and ABATE of MI-Region 16. He was on the Millen Township Board as Trustee and on the Alcona Housing Commission.
Ed loved riding motorcycles, sitting outside, enjoying campfires and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are wife, Jan Hoornstra;
brother-in-law, Scott (Sherry) Irwin;
sister-in-law, Nancy (David) Payne;
numerous nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Hoornstra; adoptive parents, George and Alma Boomer; brother, John (Carlita)Hornstra; sisters, Viola (Woodrow) Fox, Sally (Raymond) Garver and Eunice (Clyde) Parker.
Donations in Ed’s memory are suggested to a local food bank or favorite charity.
