Jackie Michael Sadler, known to friends and family as “Mike” or “Mickey” passed away peacefully at his home in Clio, Michigan, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Flint, Michigan, on September 19, 1934, Mike's life was a testament to service, love, and devotion to family, community, and his faith.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Matilda (McCarthy) Sadler, and his beloved grandson, Gordon King. He was also preceded by his siblings Norman, Robert, Niegel, Delores, and Charles Sadler. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 35 years, Julie (Kimbrell) Sadler, with whom he shared wonderful memories throughout their marriage, especially in their travels together and with their friends and family.
Mike was a proud father to Brenda Honsinger, Karen (Mike) Allen, Susan (Dale) Stephens, Gail (Terry) Harrison, Laurie (Kevin) Bone, and Timothy Sadler. His legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren: Matthew (Chrissy) Allen, Theresa King, Alisa (Scott) Tomasek, Daniel (Annie) Harrison, Andrew (Christian) King, Steven (Amanda VanDenHemel) Harrison, Adam (Kaila Venner) Stephens, Emily (Justin) Venner, Samantha Bone, Sarah Bone, Joseph Sadler, and Benjamin Sadler. Mike’s family was further blessed by 8 great-grandchildren: Madison Allen, Daytona King, Maclaina Allen, Jack Harrison, Alexander Harrison, Phil Tomasek, and Brooklynn King. He is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
Mike’s career in the bakery industry spanned over four decades. He started as a young salesman at Oven Fresh Bakery and retired in 1993 as Vice President of Sales, a role that earned him the affectionate nickname “The Bread Man” within his family.
A longtime member of Woodside Church in Flint, Mike served as a deacon for many years, teaching Sunday school and assisting with the Vacation Bible School program, playing on their softball team, and many other projects. Later, at Resurrection Reformed Church in Flint Township, he continued his service as a deacon and co-leader of the church’s Clown Ministry, where he brought joy to others with his clown persona, “Dusty Trails.” Mike was deeply involved in his church, embodying the spirit of giving and compassion.
Mike was also an active community member, dedicating his time to the Lions Club and his role as an Eagle Scout. He was a scout leader and was known for his volunteer work with children and the elderly, often entertaining them as “Dusty Trails.” His passion for helping others extended beyond the church and the scouting community, and his infectious spirit touched many lives.
Mike also had a great love of animals and farming, having quite an assortment of animals over the years, including horses, cows, donkeys, llamas, sheep, pigs, dogs and cats. He was especially fond of horses and enjoyed helping his daughters show horses through 4-H. His love of hockey was carried down through his son, Tim, and grandson, Andrew, who he watched playing hockey for many years. He was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved to attend their many sporting and school events.
In his retirement, Mike found joy in continuing his love for playing sports in his younger years (baseball, softball & hockey) by playing golf and senior softball. He traveled the country, playing in tournaments and earning numerous awards and trophies, including multiple Senior World Series titles. His love for the game and the memories he created on and off the field were central to his retirement years and he continued to cherish the many friends he made. He was also happy to have more time for two things he had always enjoyed immensely - fishing and camping with Julie, family and friends.
In accordance with Mike’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Resurrection Reformed Church, G-5225 Calkins Road, Flint, Michigan 48532. Mike’s family will receive visitors from 10:00 am until the service at 11:00 am, followed by a Memorial Luncheon. A private inurnment at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint will take place later in the day.
