PHELPS, William C.- Age 89, of Swartz Creek, passed away on January 14, 2016. His battle with cancer is over and he is at peace. Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Monday, and 10-11 AM Tuesday.

Bill was born in Nashville, MI on July 5, 1926, the seventh child of William and Della Phelps. He graduated from Linden High School. Following his graduation from high school, he entered the Army and served in the infantry during World War II and earned the Purple Heart. He also served during the Nurenburg War Crime Trials and received some of his orders directly from General Eisenhower. He returned to Flint and attended Flint Junior College where he received his accounting degree and his CPA certificate.

Bill was a CPA for over 60 years. He was a partner at Dupuis & Ryden, CPA and later opened his own practice, retiring in 1994. He was a member of MACPA and AICPA and a former member of Rotary International where he received the Paul Harris Fellow award. In the 1960s, Bill was a member of the Swartz Creek planning commission. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek. Bill loved to play golf, especially with the "boys" when he was a member of Spring Meadows Country Club. He continued to play at his winter home in Palm Desert, CA until his health prevented him from doing so. After retirement, Bill wrote his memoirs about his time in the Army, which his family will always treasure.

He leaves behind to remember his wonderful quick wit and his passion for U of M football, his wife of 47 years, Jeanette (Wallis); son, Scott of Newport Beach, CA; three daughters; Cindy Smith of Tucson, Vickie Cascini of New York, Lisa (Phil) Chapin of Fenton, and four wonderful grandchildren; Brena of NYC, Riley, Tori, and Hanna Chapin of Fenton and three who called him grandpa, Ethan, Lauren, and Cole, one brother, Mack of Naperville, IL; a special sister-in-law, Barb Young; many nieces and nephews. Also two special employees, Cindy and Kathy. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
