COLLINS, Shirley – of Clio, formerly, Cincinnati, Ohio, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Heartland Health Care Center – Briarwood. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Ed Emmerling officiating. Burial to follow in Thetford Township Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday from 11AM until 8PM and on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Shirley was born October 27, 1935 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada to the late William Mary Jane (Carsons) Mercer. She married Bill Collins on June 7, 1958 in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Shirley worked for Frisch’s Big Boy in Cincinnati as a waitress for many years. She then moved to Flint and retried from St. Joes Hospital in 1997 after 25 years of service. Shirley loved working on the farm and taking care of their racehorses. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to St. Johns to spend time with her family. Most of all, Shirley was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished taking care of her family.
Surviving are: Husand of 61 years, Bill Collins; Sons: Bill (Carol Coleman) Collins Jr. and Roger Collins; Grandchildren: Bill Joe Collins, Billy Kroncright, Bryan Collins, Brandon (Alexis) Collins, Dallen Collins, and Amellia Vasquez-Collins; 5 great grandchildren; Sisters: Joan, Margaret, Sandra, Florence and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by: Son, Michael Collins, Brother, Harrison Mercer and sisters, Evelyn, Olga and Rita.
