George L. Pierson – age 91, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2020 in Goodrich, Michigan holding his daughter’s hand. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 7 pm and Mon., Aug., 17 from 11 am to 12 pm at Hill Funeral Home – 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, Mich. with a virtual funeral service at noon via Facebook Live. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hadley Township. George was a New Year’s baby born on January 1, 1929 to the late John and Edith Pierson in Goodrich. George met the love of his life Billie Jean Burrow at the old Centre Theater in Grand Blanc and were married that year on September 6, 1947 at Billie’s parents’ house. George was a graduate of Goodrich High School class of 1947. He remained in Goodrich where he raised his family, hosted more jam sessions than anyone could count, and has always been known for his kind nature, his dedication to family and for his beautifully wavy hair. He retired after more than three decades from GM as a truck repairman. He was a member of the UAW, Musicians Union, and the Flint Banjo Club. George was a naturally talented musician and loved sharing music with everyone in any location. He performed with Willie Nelson, The Platters, Little Jimmy Dickens, and played for former President Ronald Reagan. He enjoyed building model airplanes, trains and boats. George was dedicated to attending all activities that supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with his family, especially when playing music. George was a wonderful, hard-working man and a master of chords that many consider a legend. He will be deeply missed but his music will live on forever. He is survived by his children: Jimmy (Penny) Pierson, of National City, Dwight Pierson, of Helena, Mont., and Darla Pierson (John) Harvey, of Flint; grandchildren: Mike Pierson, Shana (Gary) Tucker, Alana Pierson Listoe, Dwight Pierson Jr., Leandra (Scott) Lints and Jason Harvey; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Billie Jean Pierson, sister, Daisy Cliff and brother Donald Davis. The family would like to send a sincere thank you to the Kindred Hospice Team, the caregivers at the Pines of Goodrich and a special thank you to Alissa Dunn and Dr. Kunadi for the care and love they showed to George. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Pines of Goodrich in memory of George. Family will announce a memorial at a later date. |
