SHAW, William "Bill" David - Age 80, of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, December 17, 2016 At the Swartz Creek High School, Performing Arts Center, 1 Dragon Drive, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 4PM-8PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Special Olympics, Wounded Warriors Project or the Eastern Michigan Food Bank. Bill was born in Jackson, MI, the son of the late Kenneth James and Estelle Marie (Diener) Shaw. He married Mary Joann Bissell in Jackson, on July 30, 1971. Bill loved sports his entire life. He attended Xavier University on a partial football scholarship he earned prior to contracting polio at 15. He could explain the strategy being used by any athlete during any televised competition. He began his career in education at Concord Community Schools. He enjoyed his time as an administrator at Bedford Community Schools before dedicating the last half of his life to the Swartz Creek Schools and community. He served on the Swartz Creek School Board, Swartz Creek Planning Commission, and currently on the Clayton Township Planning Commission. Dr. Shaw took great pride in always supporting the students' and teachers' best interests while holding the position of Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. After his retirement he was an alternative education teacher for the Swartz Creek Public Schools. Surviving are: wife, Mary Shaw of Swartz Creek; daughter Jamie Turner of Grand Blanc; son, Jeffrey Lee Ulrey of Swartz Creek; grandsons, Ryder and Dashiell.
