Germanos was born in Psarades, Florina, Greece, on September 5, 1936, the son of Dimitrios and Vasiliki (Christianopoulos) Batsios. He grew up in Psarades, Greece, his beloved mountain lakeside village, was a Paidomazoma refugee during the Greek Civil War, and sent to live in Budapest, Hungary, in 1946. He was educated there and graduated as a technical engineer. During the midst of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, he escaped to Austria, and immigrated to the United States, settling in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Germanos, not speaking a word of English, was hired by International Harvester his second day in Fort Wayne, and immediately began to work. In 1958, he moved to Flint, Michigan, and eventually worked for Complete Design Service as a tool and die designer, retiring from there after forty-five years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Airlift in Germany, from 1961-1963. On June 23, 1968, he married Irene (Ritsa) Bakousidis, in Florina, Greece. He was blessed with fifty years of marriage to her and together they raised two daughters, Stephanie and Pamela. During the course of his life, Germanos sponsored and helped many members of his family immigrate to America. Having lived under communism, he believed the United States was the greatest country on earth, always cherishing the freedom and opportunity to succeed granted to its citizens. An avid gardener and conversationalist fluent in Macedonian, Greek, Hungarian, Russian, and English, Germanos was loved and cherished by his family and friends. Surviving are wife, Irene (Ritsa Bakousidis) Batcos, daughters Stephanie Batcos (son-in-law David Lukens), Pamela Batcos, and grandchildren Cecilia Lukens and Nikolas Lukens. He is also survived by brother-in-law Germanos Bakousidis (sister-in-law Lena Bakousidis), sister-in-law Eftychia Batsios, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Europe. He was preceded in death by his father Dimitrios Batsios, his mother Vasiliki (Christianopoulos) Batsios, his older brother Lazaros Batsios, and his younger brother, Ioannis Batsios. May he rest in peace and may his memory be eternal!
