EBERHARDT, Gary D. - Of Flushing, age 79, died peacefully in his home, with family in attendance after a lengthy illness on Monday, March 12, 2018e.
Funeral service will be held 6pm Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Dr. Max B. Hayden officiating.
Visitation 1pm Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
He was born on June 15, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Raymond A. and Gladys Margaret (Davis) Eberhardt.
Gary graduated from Flint Central High School, class of 1957.
Following graduation he served in the United States Army. He then went on to graduate from Northern Michigan University, in Marquette, MI, with a degree in Education.
In 1965 he married Carol Ann Briggs and after traveling through Michigan they settled in Flint, where he taught school in the Ainsworth,Carman-Ainsworth School District and was also beloved football coach.
As many lives as he touched in school days, he touched in his retirement volunteering for the American Red Cross, Disaster Relief Team in Logistics, starting with NYC during 9/11 and in totality 11 missions through his tenure. He also had a very special place in his heart for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, where he drove the patients from Michigan to seek free medical care in Chicago.
Besides Carol, his loving wife, he left behind two daughters, Ellen Lynn Eberhardt and Rebecca Ann (Eberhardt) Burnham and son, Jordan Michael Eberhardt; five grandchildren, Andrew Burnham, Alexander Burnham, Samantha Strebig, Morgan Strebig and Elyse Morgan;
two nieces, Anne Eberhardt and Lynne Eberhardt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by s his brother, R. Don Eberhardt.
