MURDOCK, REVEREND ROBERT L. – Of Flushing, age 78, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Holy Ground Baptist Church, 4381 E. Stanley Road, Genesee, MI 48437. His brother, Rev. Homer Murdock Jr. will be officiating along with Pastor Jim Reid and Chaplain Donnie Cox.
Visitation 6-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 12pm Thursday at Holy Ground Baptist Church until the time of the service.
Graveside service will be held at Flint Memorial Park immediately following the service.
Reverend Robert Murdock was born in Marion, NC 1946. The son of the late Homer and Bessie Murdock. He grew up with two brothers Reverend Homer Murdock Jr. and Reverend Albert Elmore Murdock. He moved to Michigan in 1964 and began as a journeyman apprenticeship for General Motors. He married Sandra L. Ledford in 1965. He had four children: Robert Wayne, Deanna Lynn, Scott Andrew, and Sheri Lea.
He spent his life providing for his family with 43 years of service at General Motors as a Supervisor trades journeyman.
His greatest love was for Jesus Christ and his teachings. He was a dedicated pastor for 32 years. After retirement he moved full time into Christian Ministry. At the time of death, he was senior pastor at Holy Ground Baptist Church in Genesee MI.
His family was the light of his life. He made each child, grandchild, and great grandchild feel they were the favorite or the most important.
He had a pastoral heart, he loved his church members, and worried about not only their spiritual life but also their daily problems or health concerns. He prayed they would live as Christ wanted them to live. He would say, "when my work here on earth is finished, God will take me home. " He was a good and faithful servant that led many people to Christ.
He will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and the Holy Ground Baptist Church.

Surviving are wife, Sandra of 58 years;
children, Deanna (Dean) Henry, Scott (Linda) Murdock, Sheri (Robert) Stehley;
grandchildren, Ryan (Kaylee) Olep, Lauren Campbell, Lindsey (Jordan) Gipson, Jacob Stehley, Garett (Rachel) Stehley, Deanna Malcolm, Heather (James) Morey;
great-grandchildren, Nova, Rhett, Archer, Knox, Theodore, Vivienne, Bella, Barrett, Bastian, Sam and Kate;
brother, Rev. Homer (Barbara) Murdock Jr., many brothers and sisters-in-laws; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Wayne and great-grandchild, Gracelynn Rose Gipson; brother Albert Elmore Murdock.
