A memorial service will be held at a later date, to be determined. Lloyd’s sunrise began June 5, 1924, in Bayport, Michigan, the son of William H. and Violet E. (Smith) Danks. Lloyd grew up in Flint, MI, off St. John St. during the Great Depression. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Marine Corps in the Aleutian Islands and received a Purple Heart. He married the only girl he ever dated, the love of his life, Beverly Suffel. Beverly and Lloyd were married on June 3, 1944. Each of the 71 years of marriage was a delight.
Lloyd retired from Michigan Bell Telephone (MBT) after 39 years of service as a cable and wire engineer and right-of-way supervisor. A second career followed at EDS. He was a Life Member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge 222. He was awarded the Elk of the Year, the Old Timer of the Year, the Veteran of the Year and the WWII Veteran’s Plaque of the Year.
The joy of life overflowed to touch many outside of his family circle. He loved meeting people and sharing stories and experiences with them.
Lloyd was a kind, generous, and dedicated family man. He delighted in spending time with his loved ones, being on the lake with his wife and dogs, daddy-daughter dinner outings with his two daughters, adventuring with his grandchildren and creating unique gifts for his great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Danks, on July 21, 2015. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl and Gurdon Hobson of Davison and Sabra Danks of Goodrich; grandchildren, Jamisen (John) Sivak of Waterford, Kristin (Dave) Roof of Grand Blanc, and Nathan (Deborah) Hobson of Ann Arbor; great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Leah Sivak, Lillian and Michael Roof and Madeleine Hobson; brother-in-law, Keith Suffel of Muskegon; special nephew and niece, Lyle and Linda of Rochester; and many nephews and nieces and many neighbors and friends.
Lloyd and his family wish to thank his friend, Lance Newell and neighbors, Dan and Margaret Berlin for their friendship and support during his final years. Additional thanks to Med Team Hospice; Sammy Pfeiffner, Mary Valentin and Claudia Gagnon for their expert and gentle care in his last days.
