HABKIRK, Germaine J. – of Montrose, age 95, died Friday, March 15, 2019 at McLaren – Flint. Funeral services will be held 1PM, Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 1PM.
Germaine was born May 1, 1923 in Manistee, Michigan to the late Michael and Agnes (Woton) Oleniczak. She graduated from Michigan School of the Deaf in 1943. Germaine married Raymond Wahowiak on September 7, 1946. He preceded her in death on February 8, 1981. She then married Donald Habkirk on September 28, 1985. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2010. Germaine worked for AC Spark Plug in Flint for 4 years. She then worked for Marble Arms Corporation in Gladstone, Michigan for 5 years. Germaine retired from the Flint Board of Education in 1985 after 16 years of seniority. She was a member of the Flint Association of the Deaf and Flint Deaf Senior Citizens. Germaine enjoyed cooking, sewing, politics, and watching sports on TV. She also enjoyed interior decorating and fishing. Most of all, she loved the holidays and spending time with her family.
Surviving are: Daughters: Bonnie (Ray) Grossbauer and Susan (George) Laurin; Grandchildren: Jeff Grossbauer, Eric Grossbauer, Lisa (Scott) Sylvester, Raymond (Amy) Laurin, and Jill (Derek) Maxwell; Great grandchildren: Nathan, Zachary, Addison, Joseph, Mary, and Gabriella; Brother, Donald Oleniczak; Sister, Ceil (Ralph) Krusniak; Brother-in-law, Ed Beyer and the rest of the loving Habkirk family.
