BENTON, Mrs. Dorothy Lee - Age 83, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor John Thornton, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Benton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Benton was born July 7, 1930 in Robinsonville, Mississippi, the daughter of Willie and Ollie Polk. Dorothy was a member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church. Dorothy retired from Buick City. She loved playing cards, Bingo and most of all, fishing. She also loved spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Benton leaves to cherish her memory: son, Victor (Lou Della) Payne of Columbia, TN; 2 daughters, Gloria (Milton) Cason and Donna Payne, all of Flint; 10 grandchildren, Marie Watkins, Tracy Wright, Tiffany Polk, Michael Upchurch, Chris, Anthony, Harold and Breanna Payne, Michael Streeler and Victoria Lyons; 14 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Celestine Polk, Maxine Johnson, both of Memphis, TN and Margaret Patton of Los Angeles, CA; 2 daughters-in-law, Fanny Haywood and Erma Polk; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her 4 sons, Charles Polk, George Haywood, William and Harold Payne; parents, Willie and Ollie Polk; and 3 sisters, Lucy, Willie May and Lillie.
