BEHM, Walter J. – Of Howell, age 93, died Thursday, May 26, 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Howell.
Walter was born on August 1, 1922 in Detroit, to Ernest and Augusta (Lanz) Behm.
Walter grew up in Allen Park and joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from High School.
In the Navy he was a Radio Man, First Class and served most of his time in the Pacific Theatre. When returning from the service he married Patricia Ann Walker.
The couple settled in Mt. Morris, after completing college, where Walter worked for the Flint Community Schools as a Teacher and an Elementary Principal for 30+ years.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patricia;
Four children, Tom and Connie (Willet) Behm of Blanchard,
Nancy and Terry O’Leary of Metamora,
Bonnie and Tom Riutta of Brighton,
Gary and Jeanne (Sheffer) Behm of West Henrietta, New York.
In addition, they have six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
After retirement Walter and Patricia enjoyed many years as “snowbirds” traveling to their home in Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. following the Memorial Service.
