WITT, Leroy William “Jim” SGT. – of Clio, died April 12, 2017 at Gross Assisted Living in Clio. He was 88 years of age. Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM Friday April 14, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Family will receive visitors at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home from 11AM to the time of service at 1:30PM. Burial will follow in Flint Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to VFW Post #1452 of Clio.
“Jim” was born May 29, 1928 to the late William and Elsie (Burow) Witt. Jim attended high school at Flint Northern and shortly after he enlisted into the Army Air Corp. Jim served in WWII from 1946-1949 as a cook and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Witt, served as the senior cook during the Korean War from 1949 until 1953. During the 7 year course of military service, his valiant efforts earned him many awards, to include; 2 Good Conduct Medals, The National Defense Service Medal, The Korean Service Medal, and lastly, A Bronze Star. After the war Jim worked at Buick in Flint as a hi-low driver and retired with 30 years of service. He married Lonnie Malene Witt on December, 13th 1956 and she preceded him in death on June 7, 2003. Jim enjoyed doing crafts with his wife, helping with the VFW Bingo nights, being a “big brother” and watching old black and white movies.
